Macular degeneration runs in my family which is why I have been on a mission to learn how I can improve my eyesight naturally. I had never heard of wet macular degeneration until I spoke with a friend of mine whose husband had it.

If you are not familiar with what macular degeneration is, it’s a chronic eye disease in which the part of your eye responsible for central vision - your macula (MAK-u-luh) - gradually deteriorates, causing blurred central vision or a blind spot in the center of your visual field. Macular degeneration tends to affect adults age 50 and older.

Tips for Caregivers: How to Improve Lighting in Your Home

February 5th, 2010

Eyesight often diminishes with age, and even healthy seniors may notice that they just can’t see as well as they used to. For seniors who want to remain in their own homes rather than move into a home that is tailored to their changing needs, it means making a few changes to improve lighting and visibility.

Up the wattage of existing bulbs: Many seniors I know use low wattage bulbs to save on power. The downside of these bulbs is that the brightness of the room is compromised. Instead of using those old fashioned standard light bulbs, switch to energy saving bulbs instead that produce a higher light with less wattage. A stronger light will improve visibility and make those dark rooms a little easier to navigate through.

Do Pinhole Glasses Really Work

February 4th, 2010

I have been on a mission now for awhile to improve my eyesight naturally. Since I only wear reading glasses, it was suggested that you should wear pinhole glasses instead so that your eyes could learn how to adjust and start seeing things without your artificial lenses.

Sure they are very strange looking and like many other people, I was really curious to know if they really worked. I ordered one of the cheapest pair not really wanting to waste money on something I wasn’t quite sure about. The total cost of my pinhole glasses were a little under $20 which included shipping. Now I grant you I didn’t purchase the best looking pair but since I work at home, it didn’t really matter.

Natural Remedies for Your Eyesight

January 28th, 2010

The phrase “Natural Remedies for your Eyesight” would suggest that there are remedies that will help improve your eyesight naturally. In the past all we have ever known where conventional treatments such as wearing glasses or contact lenses. For the people who are tired of wearing their artificial lenses they can now have Lasik surgery as an alternative.

We live in a world now where the majority of us are so accustomed to instant fixes that we lack the patience that is needed in order to improve our eyesight through natural methods. Our eyesight didn’t fail us overnight so it’s safe to say that using natural methods is no overnight cure. I’m not the kind of person who will have Laski surgery to improve my eyesight because I know it’s a costly procedure and it’s not something that will cure your eyesight for good.

How Your Eyes Are Affected During An Illness

January 26th, 2010

I recently returned from a conference in Dallas only to wake up two days later with the croup. I call it that because I know I didn’t have the flu. Halleluiah for that but I had all the sinus problems like the runny nose, the watery eyes, my sinuses draining, and the horrible cough that came with it. During this time I realized how your eyes are affected during an illness.

I tried to work periodically during this time although at times I felt so horrible.  Like most people, if you don’t work you don’t make any money. Normally when I first start my day I splash water on my eyes. I’ve recently been on a mission to improve my eyesight naturally and I learned that this is one of the techniques that really help. And believe me when I tell you it really does.

Unfortunately since I was sick, nothing seemed to help. It’s like I couldn’t see at all; with or without my glasses on. It’s like I had a haze over my eyes for about four days and it was a horrible feeling. I know, I know, being sick is never fun but I would periodically feel somewhat decent so during those times I would try to get some work done but I just couldn’t see. I guess I never really thought about it before this and I’m sure I’m not the only person this has happened to.

Top 10 Common Myths About Your Eyes

January 19th, 2010

If your mother was anything like mine, I was constantly being told of the many things that could hurt my eyesight if I wasn’t careful. Some of my favorites were “don’t read without the lights on” or “don’t sit too close to the TV” or ” if you cross your eyes they will stay that way”. I have learned a lot since I’ve been on my quest to improve my eyesight naturally and thought I would share with you the top 10 common myths about your eyes.

1. Reading in the dark damages your eyes.
Reading in the dark can possibly cause strain on your eyes if they aren’t able to read the words clearly but that will not damage your eyes.

2. Sitting too close to the television will ruin your eyesight.
The reason most kids sit too close to the TV is because they are nearsighted and can’t see the TV from a distance. But, there is no proof that sitting too close to the TV will damage your eyes.
